Ochy review: is it worth it in 2026?

An honest Ochy review from App Store, Google Play and Reddit reviews. Strengths, weaknesses, Ochy pricing at the time of writing, and who should pick something else.

Ochy is worth it if you are a coach or a runner who wants many metrics fast and can live with a subscription. It is not worth it if you want to verify the result yourself, if you have been caught by a trial before, or if you want a plan you will follow. This review is built from the App Store reviews in four countries, the Google Play reviews and the Reddit threads we analysed, plus the vendor's own description. We have not run a hands-on test.

What Ochy is

Ochy is a running form and gait analysis app from a French company founded in 2021, on iOS and Android. You film yourself running, upload the clip, and the vendor promises "detailed analysis results in under 60 seconds". The report covers pronation, pelvic tilt, overstride, cadence, knee position and flight time, then suggests exercises. There is a coach mode and a rear view mode. The vendor's site says "Making Lab-Quality Biomechanics Analysis Accessible to Everyone".

At the time of writing it has 4.5 stars from 286 ratings on the App Store and 4.6 from 428 on Google Play. That is the biggest and best-rated app in the category.

Strengths

Speed. Positive reviews mention how quickly a result comes back.

Breadth. Pronation, pelvic tilt and flight time are things Caden does not report. If you want them on paper, Ochy gives them.

Coaches use it. The happiest reviews come from people helping others.

"As a professional running coach, this app allows me to help my athletes make slight changes to their running form" App Store review, 5 stars, US

Some runners changed something because of it.

"The app Ochy was enough for me to tweak my form. I was a bit too upright so I practiced falling forward more." Reddit r/running

"It helped me to reevaluate my form and realize I was shifting my weight more to one side." App Store review, 5 stars, US

Even a 1-star Google Play review conceded it "Can save you a lot instead of going to a physio to do a gait analysis."

Weaknesses

The negative reviews cluster into six themes, in the order they should matter to you.

Accuracy disputed by people who checked the footage

This is the one to care about. Several reviewers are coaches or physios. They watched the same clip and disagreed with the app.

"You can see with your eyes that the customer is overpronating or rolling in, yet the software rates it 100% neutral." App Store review, 1 star, GB

"It suggests I'm leaning back too much which myself and the physio both agreed is wrong based on the footage." App Store review, 2 stars, GB

A Reddit user found it "not super consistent" between runs. We cannot say how often this happens. We can say the app does not show you the frame behind the call. Read how accurate are running form apps for what 2D video can and cannot see.

Billing and the trial

"DO NOT take the yearly plan which claims to include a 7 day free trial because they will take all your money upfront and when you cancel within the time you won't get any refund." Google Play review, 1 star

Another reviewer called it "impossible to cancel". A third said it offered a limited time premium discount "at the very beginning, when you haven't even tried their analysis." An Australian reviewer complained that "They won't show pricing in the App Store, or on their website." We cannot verify individual refund cases. Plan around it: read the plan screen slowly, and cancel from the store, not by deleting the app.

Exercises that do not follow through

"Seems they have put all the effort into the analysis, but not much into the exercises regime part." App Store review, 2 stars, GB

Reddit called the exercises "too general". A Google Play reviewer wanted reminders and said without them "in the end do not use the app at all." One US reviewer could not create a training plan, because the app said no analysis was available to select.

Uploads and the rear view

One Australian reviewer sat at 0% for 10 minutes. Another had uploads "fail without any error message". A Google Play reviewer said the side view worked but "the rear view won't upload videos and there's no tech support to contact."

Support

Two GB reviewers said emails went unanswered. A Google Play reviewer gave one star "due to terrible customer service."

Missing modes and rough edges

Reviewers asked for a sprint mode, missed a walking mode removed in an update, and found the first setup question demanded metric units. A few hit crashes and a black screen.

Ochy pricing at the time of writing

Prices from the App Store listing at the time of writing: $19.99 a month, $89.99 to $119.99 a year, and $49.99 for a pack of 15 analyses. Reviewers saw other numbers in other countries: "£50 a year" in a GB review, "$60 upfront" in a US review, and on Google Play "almost 9$ for monthly subscription" with the monthly plan capped at 3 analyses a month and extra analyses sold on top. The same reviewer reported one free analysis for free users. Prices change. Check the plan screen before you commit.

One more thing: a US reviewer found part of the result "greyed out and locked behind a paywall" with a points system and a link to a sports brand they could not make sense of. The price you see first may not be the whole price.

Who Ochy is for

  • Coaches and clinics who want a quick report for many athletes.
  • Runners who want pronation and pelvic tilt in the report.
  • Android users who want a graded result. Few alternatives serve Android well.

Who should pick Caden instead

Caden is an iPhone app that measures six 2D angles plus cadence from a side-view clip. The clip uploads with the audio removed and is stored privately under your account until you delete it. Pick it over Ochy if:

  • You want to check the verdict. Caden shows annotated frames at foot strike, midstance and toe-off with the skeleton drawn on you.
  • You want a plan you will do. Caden builds a 4 or 8 week plan from your lowest dials, three sessions a week, then compares the end with your baseline.
  • You want your clip stored privately and gone when you delete it.
  • You want the app to say no instead of guessing. Caden rejects clips that are too dark, too short, too far away or have two people in them.
  • You want the price before you pay.

Do not pick Caden if you need pronation, pelvic tilt or flight time, or if you are on Android. See Ochy alternatives for six other options.

How to do it in Caden

  1. Tap Run a new analysis. Film 10 to 20 seconds from the side at your easy pace.
  2. Read the form score and the six dials. Tap the lowest one for its cue.
  3. Open Breakpoints. Check Foot strike and see where the foot lands.
  4. Start a 4 or 8 week plan from the result.
  5. Re-film at the end of the plan and open Before and after in Stats.

FAQ

Is Ochy worth it?

For a coach or a metric-hungry runner, yes, if the subscription fits your budget and you accept that the verdict cannot be checked against a frame. For a runner who wants a plan and proof, Caden or a physio session is a better spend.

How much does Ochy cost?

At the time of writing the App Store listing shows $19.99 a month, $89.99 to $119.99 a year, and $49.99 for 15 analyses. Reviewers reported other prices in other countries. Check the app.

Is Ochy accurate?

Most reviewers do not complain about accuracy. The ones who do are coaches and physios who compared the result with the footage. Any 2D video app, Caden included, can be wrong on a bad clip. The difference is whether you can see the frame and judge.

Does Ochy have a free version?

A Google Play reviewer reported one free analysis for free users. The full report and exercises need a paid plan.

Is this a hands-on test?

No. This review is based on the App Store, Google Play and Reddit reviews we analysed plus the vendor's own description. We have not measured Ochy's output against a lab.
