Ochy alternatives for runners in 2026

Seven Ochy alternatives, ranked by what you need. A plan, a free option, a coach tool, a physio session or a free desktop player. Honest notes on each.

The best Ochy alternative depends on one question: do you want more metrics, or do you want a plan? For a runner who wants a plan and a way to check the result, Caden fits best. For a free option, Movaia's free tier or Kinovea. For a coach, Onform. For pain, a physio with a camera. Ochy is still the right pick for some people, and we say who at the end.

Why people look for an Ochy alternative

Ochy holds 4.5 stars on the App Store and 4.6 on Google Play at the time of writing, so most users are happy. The ones who leave give the same few reasons. Coaches and physios who watched the same footage disagreed with the verdict. Billing felt like a trap. The exercises were general. Uploads stuck.

"I've used this with clients and with myself and the feedback is just wrong." App Store review, 2 stars, GB

"the exercises it gives based on the analysis are also too general" Reddit r/running

"They won't show pricing in the App Store, or on their website." App Store review, 1 star, AU

Every option below fixes some of that. None fixes all.

The seven alternatives

1. Caden. Best for a runner who wants a plan

Caden is an iPhone app. You film 5 to 20 seconds from the side, outdoors or on a treadmill. The audio is removed and the clip uploads to private storage under your account, where Caden's servers run the pose estimation. You get a score out of 100 and six dials: where your foot lands, knee bend on landing, knee bend at push-off, upper body lean, arm bend and head position, plus cadence. Every verdict has a Breakpoints frame at foot strike, midstance and toe-off, so you can check the call. Then you can start a 4 or 8 week plan, three sessions a week, built from your lowest dials. What it does not do: pronation, pelvic tilt, flight time or anything 3D. It is iPhone only, free to download, with Pro for the full analysis and plan. We rank it first only for the runner who wants a plan. See Ochy vs Caden.

2. Movaia. Best free option

Movaia is a web app with no store listing. You upload a video in the browser and get a written report with target ranges and exercises. The vendor says a normal-speed video takes around 5 minutes, and up to 30 with slow-motion and rear-view clips. At the time of writing the vendor's page lists a free tier of 2 limited analyses a month, and Pro at about US$2.50 a month billed annually. Trade-offs: your video goes to their servers and you wait. We found no user-written reviews of it. Its own site criticises Ochy for "generic illustrations instead of your own body". See Movaia vs Ochy vs Caden.

3. GaitLab Coach. Best cheap side-view check

GaitLab Coach is an iPhone app with a small Android listing. You record a 60-second side-view video, flag your injury, and it returns a 1 to 10 form score, the flaws it links to your pain, and a 4 or 8 week plan. The App Store listing shows US$4.99 at the time of writing. Trade-offs: side view only, and 9 ratings. The one negative review is the accuracy problem Ochy also gets: "says I heel strike when I clearly midfoot strike." There is no frame to check.

"For only $2 I got really good feedback on my running form." App Store review, 5 stars, US

4. RunForm AI. Most metrics, paywall first

RunForm AI by Paco Studio is an iPhone app. You upload a short side or back video and get 10 metrics, including cadence, knee angle, trunk lean, foot-strike angle and vertical oscillation, with scores and coaching text. One reviewer liked that "the results are pretty detailed". Trade-offs: 5 ratings at a 3.4 average at the time of writing, and a paywall before you see anything.

"Unreasonable paywall. App takes login info and asks questions just to be met with paywall." App Store review, 1 star, US

5. Onform. Best if you have a coach

Onform is a coach-to-athlete video platform. It records at 240 frames per second, plays frame by frame, and lets a coach draw lines and angles, record voice-over and message the athlete. It absorbed Hudl Technique and holds 4.8 stars from over 8,000 iOS ratings. Trade-offs: it does not grade your form. A human watches the video. Athletes join free only when a paying coach invites them, and reviewers quote about $30 a month for the coach plan. If you coach, read Caden for running coaches.

"This app is pretty useless if you are looking to help your game solo." Google Play review

6. A physio 2D video session. Best if something hurts

A physio films you from several angles, plays it back slowly, and talks you through it. This is the benchmark Reddit compares every app to. Trade-offs: cost and follow-up. A 2D session is typically 75 to 150, and there is no re-check unless you book again. See gait analysis clinic vs app.

"They took video of me running from several angles and then we reviewed the results. Gait, stride, foot fall, hip drop, cadence, posture, all of it. Then, I was given about 4 specific cues to help." Reddit r/running

7. Kinovea. Best free desktop tool

Kinovea is free, open source and runs on Windows desktop. It is a video player for sport analysis with manual angle, line and timing tools. It is the default free answer on alternativeto for the retired Coach's Eye. Trade-offs: no phone app, and none is planned per its own guides. It gives you tools, not a verdict, and its own forum reports crashes such as "Crash of Kinovea every 2 or 3 actions". If you know what to look for and will measure it yourself, it is hard to beat.

Is there a free Ochy alternative?

Yes, three routes. Movaia's free tier gives 2 limited analyses a month. Kinovea is free on Windows, but you do the measuring. Caden is free to download, with the full analysis and plan on Pro. Ochy itself gives one free analysis, per a Google Play reviewer. See free running form analysis.

Who should stay with Ochy

Stay if you are a coach who already has athletes in it. Stay if you need pronation or pelvic tilt in writing. Stay if you are on Android, since Caden is iPhone only and GaitLab's Android listing is tiny. Ochy's rating is the highest in this category for a reason.

How to switch or try

Film one 15-second side-view clip at your easy pace. Run it through your two shortlisted options the same day. Compare the foot strike verdict with what you see in the frame. Pick the one whose plan you will do. Cancel any trial from the store subscriptions screen, not by deleting the app.

How to do it in Caden

  1. Tap Run a new analysis and film 10 to 20 seconds from the side. Read how to film yourself running first.
  2. Check the form score and find the lowest of the six dials.
  3. Open Breakpoints and look at Foot strike. Confirm the verdict yourself.
  4. Start a 4 or 8 week plan from the result and do session 1.
  5. At the end of the plan, re-film and open Before and after in Stats.

FAQ

What is the closest app to Ochy?

GaitLab Coach and RunForm AI are the closest in idea: film, upload, get a graded result. Both have tiny user bases. Caden works the same way but adds annotated frames you can check and a plan built from your scores.

Is Caden free like Movaia's free tier?

Caden is free to download. The full analysis and plan need a Pro subscription. Movaia's free tier gives 2 limited analyses a month in the browser at the time of writing.

Can any of these measure pronation?

Ochy says it does. No 2D phone app, Caden included, can measure it reliably from a side or rear video. A physio or a lab with pressure or 3D data can.

Trademarks

Ochy, Movaia, GaitLab, RunForm AI, Onform, Kinovea and Coach's Eye are trademarks of their owners. Caden is not affiliated with any of them.
